Alice Lousen

My artistic expression has been deeply influenced by ballet. Practicing this art form for the vast majority of my life, I have grown accustomed to the physical, mental, and visual aspects of ballet. Physically, I love that ballet requires so much bodily determination. The intense focus mentally demands so much. I am also interested in the intersection of ballet and modern dance. With this combination, I can experiment. To me, modern dance is about creating what no one else has. Utilizing the body as a tool, I can create shapes and movement that is truly authentic and unique. I believe that this, with a ballet base, has great potential. The long, strong, physical nature of a body that does ballet is a palette for me as a dance creator. In this case, creating dance is a matter of finding out what a particular body can do in space. This way, I can utilize ballet tenants along with modern experimentation.
